New England Brew on Some Brews!
I was picked as 1 of 28 local designers to create a poster celebrating our collective love for beer and New England! All profits from the sale of artwork will be donated to Artists for Humanity to help under-resourced youth into paid employment in art and design.

My Design
Reminiscent of tarot cards and witchcraft, this is a more magical interpretation of brew. The colors and six trees, one for each state in the region, call back to the New England flag. The text at bottom is in Latin, meaning “Never does liberty appear in a more gracious form;” is one of the de facto New England mottos.
About Backlash
Backlash Beer was born curious. We were tired of conventional mass-produced, tasteless beer and wondered: Why settle for this crap? So, July of 2011 we set out to create beer with backbone.
After contract brewing at various locations for years, a series of hazy decisions led us to buy our first fermenter and put down roots in Roxbury, MA -- opening the doors to our taproom in September of 2018.
While we’ve grown since those early days, we still brew in small batches that defy the corporatization of craft.
With curiosity at our core, we brew in defiance.
What is BSDS?
Bay State Design Shop (“BSDS”) is a growing community that’s for New England-area designers, by New England-area designers. Our Slack channel is an inclusive gathering spot for all stripes of designer—veteran practitioners, up-and-comers, and greenhorns alike—we’re an egalitarian, pretension-free place for designers to talk shop, chew the fat, and lend each other a helping hand. Think of Bay State Design Shop as a lively potluck dinner that everybody’s invited to.
We’re a place for designers to ask questions, share insights into their work, offer constructive, real-time critique—as well as get a heads up on job opportunities, resources, and events in the area. Rest easy though, friend; we take our work seriously, but not ourselves. Be assured there’s a heaping portion of malarkey served up daily in our scrappy design clubhouse.
Founded in 2017 by designers Ryan Arruda & Erik Weikert, Bay State Design Shop has grown organically over the last year, and is proud to have over 300 members amongst its roster. You know what, though? It’d be an even better place if you joined too.
So hold onto your hats, folks—you had BEST BELIEVE™ that the Bay State Design Shop is ready to welcome you to its ranks. So, what do you say? If you’re a New England-area designer, come pull up a chair and sit a spell. The conversation is good, the people are genuine, and the snacks are free.
Artists for Humanity
Proceeds from the show will be donated to Artists for Humanity whose mission is to provide under-resourced urban youth with the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in art and design. Bridging economic, racial, and social divisions, AFH enriches urban communities by introducing young people's creativity to diverse businesses.
