Research

The focus of my research is murals, specifically justifying murals in a digital age through how they act as interactive environments. I delved into murals and graffiti, researching their history and relations to environments, looking at how people have used both as a means to modify their surroundings and encourage dialogue. I also looked into how people, both as individuals and as groups, respond to murals as a physical entity and to the messages they carry. I also discussed their role in areas in conflict and the more recent movement of community-backed mural groups.

They act as outlets for dialogue in social settings, playing the role as both transmitter and receiver. Murals encourage and challenge people to stop, to think, and to act. They can be transformative both in how they alter and interact the space they occupy, and in the process through which they are created.

Concept

Tapping into the transformative and communicative aspects of murals, I would like to spark dialogue, promote interaction, and re-evaluate space. By creating divides or altering space, it would cause people to their preconceptions of space.
